  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup sour cream or plain yogurt

For the Toffee Almond Topping:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup sliced almonds, lightly toasted

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9″ × 9″ square baking pan.
  2. Prepare dry ingredients: In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Make cake batter: In a separate bowl, cream together butter with granulated and brown sugars, add eggs and vanilla, then mix in sour cream. Gradually add dry ingredients and spread batter in the pan.
